UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka assured on Monday that the UN Security Council has a unified position on Lebanon, stressing the importance of implementing Resolution 1701.

“The Security Council is unified about Lebanon, which it highly values, considering the strategic role it plays in the region,” Wronecka declared after a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, whom she briefed on her latest talks at the UN headquarters regarding the application of 1701.

She said her meeting in New York focused on the necessity of adhering to Resolution 1701 and the need to implement it on the ground. In addition, she continued, the meeting tackled strategies to protect Lebanon from the threat of war.

“We also discussed reforms, the role of state institutions and the election of a President for the Republic,” she went on to say.
