A UNIFIL patrol was targeted on Saturday midday by the Israeli army near Aitaroun in South Lebanon. None of the peacekeepers were injured, but their vehicle was damaged. The incident occurred following a period of relative calm along the Blue Line.

UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti stated, “This attack on the peacekeeping forces is deeply concerning. We condemn it and emphasize the responsibility of the parties involved to protect the peacekeeping forces.”

He recalled that the UNIFIL Chief of Mission, General Aroldo Lázaro, had called on the parties involved to end the cycle of violence along the Blue Line just yesterday, emphasizing that any escalation could have devastating consequences.

On Saturday morning, the UK Embassy in Lebanon reiterated its call to UNIFIL to end hostile acts along the Blue Line. It reaffirmed its “commitment to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.” In a statement on platform X, the British Embassy added that the calm since Friday offers an opportunity to focus on developing a sustainable peace solution.

The situation in South Lebanon experienced relative calm on Saturday, the second day of the ceasefire in Gaza.
