House Speaker Nabih Berri stated on Monday that “the ongoing Israeli war (on Gaza) is a project that aims to fragment the region along sectarian and ethnic lines, with Israel as the dominant entity.”

Addressing the emergency meeting of the Parliamentary Union of Members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Berri emphasized that the violence inflicted by Israel in Gaza reflects its intention to implement a plan to “transfer” the Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip to the Sinai Peninsula.

“The realization of this plan would not only undermine the Palestinian cause but also pose a threat to Arab and Islamic national security,” he added.

He also called on the OIC to “request that member states of the organization, which have entered into agreements with Israel, immediately cancel or suspend these agreements.”

He added that it would be necessary to “expedite the formation of government delegations that would travel to the world’s decision-making capitals to put an end to the extermination war in Gaza.”

Berri further stressed that “the responsibility for defending Gaza and Palestine rests not only with the Palestinians but with the entire Arab nation as well.”

He concluded by reiterating “the legitimate right of the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

Berri addressed the OIC meeting in Algeria via video call.
