The election of members of the Supreme Islamic Sharia Council in Lebanon, the legislative body of Dar el-Fatwa, was held on Sunday in various Lebanese regions.
The results of the elections are as follows:
– In Beirut: Mohammed Makkaoui, Wassim Mogharbel, Ziad al-Saheb, Abdel-Hamid al-Takki, Mazen Charbaji, Mohammed Beyrdoun, Abdallah Chahine, and Fouad Zerad.
– In Mount Lebanon: Hamzah Charafeddine al-Chareh and Raif Abdallah.
– In Akkar: Kifah Kassar.
– In the Bekaa: Younes Abdel-Razzak and Mohammed Khaled Ajami.
– In Tripoli: Fayez Seif, Bilal Baraka, Ahmad al-Amine, Mazher al-Hamaoui, Oussama Trad, Wael Zammarli, and Mounzer Hamza.
– In Saida (elected ex officio): Abdelhalim Zein, Mouaffak Rouass, and Fayez Baassiri.
– In Hasbaya and Marjeyoun (elected ex officio): Nazih Hamad.
After depositing his ballot in the ballot box at the opening of the polling stations, the Mufti of the Republic, Abdul Latif Deriane, affirmed that Dar el-Fatwa would remain “a place of moderation and openness and will continue to watch over the unity of Muslims and the Lebanese.”
