The Saydet el-Jabal Gathering said on Monday that “no internal dialogue can help Lebanon overcome the presidential impasse unless two conditions are met.” The first one is related to “the participation of the representatives of Group of Five (United States, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt) concerned with Lebanon alongside those of the Lebanese parliamentary blocs and parties, to maintain a balance with Iranian backed Hezbollah, in a session during which the respect of decisions taken will be guaranteed.”

The second is linked to the election of a president. Saydet el-Jabal called for “the aforementioned session to be accompanied by successive parliamentary meetings devoted to the election of a head of state so that the session is opened and not lifted until a president is elected.”

During its weekly meeting, Saydet el-Jabal considered that the Iranian Foreign Minister’s statement that Iran does not interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs constitutes “an insult to the intelligence of the Lebanese and their tragedies.”

They added, “Iran’s interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs was confirmed by Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah, who had publicly acknowledged that his weapons and money all came from Iran.”

The Saydet el-Jabal gathering also welcomed the renewal of UNIFIL’s mandate in southern Lebanon for a year, through resolution 2695, “which allows it to carry out announced and unannounced operations, in coordination with the Lebanese government.”
