Primesouth is expected to resume the operation of the Deir Ammar and al-Zahrani power plants on Thursday, after obtaining a verbal promise from caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati that the company would receive $7 million of its outstanding dues, according to al-Markazia news agency.

The company, which operates the only thermal power plants connected to the national grid, had suspended operations on August 16 after the Central Bank failed to transfer overdue funds.

Fears of a total blackout posed a threat to public facilities such as airports, seaports and government institutions. Critical infrastructure such as water pumping stations also depend on electricity for operation.
