A Ghanaian peacekeeper was killed at noon on Friday in a road accident near the town of al-Dhayra in southern Lebanon between a vehicle of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and a civilian car.

Two other Ghanaian peacekeepers and a Lebanese civilian were also injured in the collision.

In a statement UNIFIL said, “It is with deep sorrow that we mourn a UNIFIL peacekeeper from Ghana who tragically lost his life in the accident. We extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to his family in Ghana for this painful loss.”

“We are also deeply saddened that a Lebanese civilian and two other Ghanaian peacekeepers were seriously injured in the collision. They were immediately taken to hospitals to receive the necessary medical care. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement added.
