French presidential envoy to Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, held talks with Saudi Minister of foreignh Affairs Faisal bin Farhan in Jeddah as part of planned bilateral concertation on the Lebanese crisis, following the Quintet meeting held in Doha on Monday, July 17.

The meeting was attended by Nizar Aloula, the Saudi foreign ministry official in charge of following up the Lebanese crisis, and Ludovic Pouille, French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi News Agency reported.

“During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed means to intensify cooperation in various domains. They also discussed the latest developments in the Lebanese crisis and the efforts deployed in that regard,” the agency said.

The Quintet, consisting of delegates from Egypt, France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the US, convened on Monday in the Qatari capital to discuss ways to end the presidential deadlock in Lebanon.

Following the Quintet meeting, Le Drian held bilateral talks with the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs before heading to Saudi Arabia for similar consultations. He is expected to visit Egypt, as well before going back to Paris to brief French President Emmanuel Macron on the outcome of his meetings.
