French President Emmanuel Macron’s special envoy for Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, informed French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna of the results of the first round of his discussions in Beirut last June, the Quai d’Orsay confirmed on Thursday. It is not yet known whether Mr. Le Drian reported to the French President on his mission.

At the press briefing on Thursday, the Quai d’Orsay spokesman said that Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian “reported to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Mme Colonna, on the preliminary conclusions of his mission”. “As you know, this first mission, which lasted a few days in Lebanon, enabled him to meet all the political and religious leaders, as well as civil society, and thus to establish an initial assessment of the situation, which he was able to report to Ms. Colonna in order to map out the next stage of his mission”, he continued, adding that at this stage, he had “no further details on when Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian will travel to Lebanon”. “But he will be going there in the next few weeks”, he said.
