Communication channels between Hezbollah and the head of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) Gebran Bassil have been completely severed since Bassil waged war on the pro-Iranian group over its support of the presidential candidacy of the head of the Marada Movement Sleiman Frangieh.

However, Hezbollah maintains its contact with the FPM, notably with MP Alain Aoun who is said to have become Hezbollah’s interlocutor. Nevertheless, it seems as though Hezbollah does not want to completely renounce its only Christian ally. Attempts to patch things up are ongoing, as they were made some time ago to avoid a total split between the two parties and, above all, to overcome Bassil’s resistance to Frangieh’s candidacy. However, these attempts have reportedly been reoriented.

In political circles close to Hezbollah, contacts have reportedly been made to prepare for a meeting between Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and FPM founder Michel Aoun.
