Former Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Osseiri expressed optimism regarding the Saudi-Iranian deal and its potential positive outcomes for both Lebanon and Syria, provided its clauses are executed.

In an interview with LBCI, Osseiri highlighted the significance of the Arab League Summit scheduled for May 19 in Jeddah given the crucial items on its agenda.

“Saudi Arabia is keen on preserving the best relations with all Arab countries,” the Saudi diplomat said.

Osseiri went on to say that “the issues that led Lebanon to its current state is solely internal, and all those who supported the previous term should think of the well-being of Lebanese citizens and abandon their intransigient support of one candidate.”

On March 10, 2023, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to restore diplomatic ties, marking the end of a seven-year period of severed relations. The deal, brokered by China, binds both parties to respect each other’s sovereignty and that of neighboring countries.
