Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, toured on Friday the region of Akkar, North of Lebanon. During the tour he met with local personalities and inaugurated several roads in the region that connect military border posts and facilitate citizen’s access to their lands. While addressing soldiers operating in the region, the army chief stressed the need to maintain border security, and fight drug trafficking, praising the army’s role in this regard.

“A state that does not control its borders becomes permeable to all kinds of violations. Our borders are our land and our honor, they are now under control thanks to your sacrifices and perseverance”, he said.

He added, “History will remember that you have preserved your country,” calling on the military to be patient. Aoun acknowledged the difficulties they face, emphasizing that he is making every effort to improve their living conditions in this difficult economic situation, including providing medical care and transportation.
