A statement released by the White House on Wednesday, October 18, announced the United States’ decision to provide $100 million in humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza.

This funding would help support over a million displaced and conflict-affected people with clean water, food, hygiene support, medical care, and other essential needs.

The statement highlighted that the provision of this aid would be distributed in cooperation with “trusted partners, including UN agencies and international NGOs.”

According to the statement, civilians were absolved of blame stating they “should not suffer for Hamas’s horrific terrorism,” and that “civilian lives must be protected and assistance must urgently reach those in need.”

Israel said it would allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip from neighboring Egypt, while maintaining its siege on the Palestinian territory since bloody attacks by Hamas.

The devastating impact of Israel’s restrictions and constant bombardment of Gaza, home to 2.4 million people, has been a major concern among the country’s allies and became a key talking point during US President Joe Biden’s hours-long visit to Israel.
