Members of President Joe Biden’s administration were furious at Israel’s decision to eliminate Haniyeh last week. They feared the action could jeopardize months of delicate ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.

Israel only informed the United States after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, claiming responsibility for the act, according to ‘The Washington Post’.

The newspaper also reported that US officials are frustrated by Israel’s lack of communication before launching further operations targeting Hezbollah or Iranian commanders.

In addition, an Israeli official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that a phone call between Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week, after Haniyeh’s death, was indeed tense.

Despite this, according to several people familiar with the internal discussions, there is no indication that Biden is ready to exert significant pressure on Israel to curb its actions, such as conditioning or limiting military aid.
