Nejmeh SC won the Lebanese soccer championship by beating rivals al-Ansar 2-1 on Sunday evening in Jounieh.

Al-Ansar, top of the league with a one-point lead over their opponents before this match, needed only a draw to secure the title. However, Nejmeh SC scored in the 96th minute to secure victory and the championship.

It had been 10 years since Nejmeh SC had won the championship. This season, the team won for the ninth time thanks to Kassem al-Zein’s late header.
