The Lebanese football team lost their match against the Jordanian team on the third day of the group phase of the West Asian Women’s Football Championship by a score of 2-0.

This victory enabled the Jordanians to take the lead at the expense of the Lebanese, who finished second in Group A. In the semi-finals of the tournament, they will meet the leader of Group B, who will emerge victorious from the play-off between the Palestinian and Nepalese teams for first place.

The course of the match

The Jordanians dominated the first half of the match despite the timid chances of the Lebanese team — who lost the midfield battle to the Jordanians, who failed to find the net — and so, the first half ended in a draw.

In the second half, the Jordanian team maintained their pressure, imposing total control of the game, which resulted in their first goal in the sixty-fifth minute. Not content with this goal, the Jordanians continued to exert strong pressure in the Lebanese team’s area to consolidate the result and score the second goal in the eightieth minute to secure all three points and take the lead in the group.

Preparing for the Semi-Finals

In an interview after the match, player Caroline Harfoush confirmed that the team didn’t perform to their full potential in this match but that there were plenty of positives to build on for the semi-finals.

Player Haneen Tamim felt that the Jordanian team’s experience worked in their opponents’ favor. “However, we’re ready for the semi-finals,” she added.
