Morgan Ortagus, the U.S. President’s Deputy Special Envoy for the Middle East, left the presidential palace in Baabda on Saturday morning without holding a press conference.
She arrived at 8 a.m. for a meeting that lasted nearly an hour and a half with President Joseph Aoun. Two main topics were on the agenda: the disarmament of Hezbollah, as outlined in the ceasefire agreement signed in November with Israel, and the commitment to engage in talks with Israel. The United States is keen to see a timeline for the disarmament of the Iran-backed group.
Ms. Ortagus is expected to hold similar talks with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Speaker of the House Nabih Berri.
