Ali Hamiye, the caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport, has urged residents and citizens not to dump waste into storm drains. In a tweet on his X account, he announced that “the work of paving and cleaning rainwater drains is ongoing and continuous on various highways across all Lebanese regions, from Beirut, south and north, to Mount Lebanon and the Beqaa.”
He emphasized that “efforts are wasted when people do not adhere to proper waste disposal and continue to throw waste into drains and their outlets.”
Hamiye added that “the Ministry’s contractors have diligently carried out this task and will continue their work. However, the problem may recur an hour after the removal and cleaning process is completed.” He questioned, “What if it had rained afterward? Wouldn’t that have led to roadblocks and floods?”
In closing, he reiterated the call for better coordination among all concerned parties and urged citizens and residents to collaborate to minimize flooding on highways and roads.
