The Lebanese University Contractual Professors’ Committee has announced a week-long general strike, starting Monday, March 4.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the committee called on all contractual professors to “take part in a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education on Tuesday, March 5, at 11 AM.”
The aim of the sit-in is “to speed up the approval process for their tenure files and to demand their rights, in particular, an increase in hourly pay and the granting of productivity and transport allowances.”
The committee also called on the Lebanese University’s association of part-time lecturers, the council of delegates, the university employees’ association, and students to take part in the sit-in, scheduled for Tuesday, “to put an end to the injustice suffered by contractual lecturers.”
In the late afternoon, the Lebanese University press office announced that “Monday will be a normal teaching day in all the faculties, institutes, and branches of the LU,” given the fact that “the association of full-time professors at the university had not issued any statement” and “to preserve the interest of students.”
