NATO Secretary General Jens Stolenberg has appointed Farah Dakhlallah, a Lebanese and British citizen, as NATO spokesperson. Dakhlallah will take up her responsibilities in March 2024. She succeeds Oana Lungescu, who served as spokesperson from 2010 to 2023.

Stolenberg said, “I look forward to welcoming Farah Dakhlallah as the next NATO Spokesperson. In a more dangerous world, clear and timely communication, and engagement with the media, are more important than ever.”

“Ms. Dakhlallah joins NATO with wide-ranging experience from both public and private sectors, including the United Nations, the UK government, and AstraZeneca, as well as several media organizations,” as seen on the NATO website.

On her X account, Dakhlallah said it was an honor and a privilege “to be appointed NATO Spokesperson, leading Press & Media for the Alliance at this critical time. NATO protects more than 1 billion people, safeguarding their freedom and democracy, and contributing to a more peaceful world.”

Dakhlallah was most recently Director of Media Relations for the Middle East and Africa at AstraZeneca. She was previously Head of Communications at the World Health Organization between 2017 and 2021. Prior to that, she was the Arabic language spokesperson for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office between 2014 and 2016.

Dakhlallah holds an MA in International Relations from Cambridge University and an MA in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics. She previously studied Audiovisual Arts at Saint Joseph University in Beirut.

Her appointment comes at a critical time for NATO, with war raging in Ukraine.
