The recently appointed French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stephane Sejourne, is set to visit Beirut on Tuesday as part of international efforts to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and South Lebanon. This visit follows a recent trip by the British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, last Thursday.

This also follows visits from the Qatari envoy, and from the Italian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, to Beirut with the aim of finding a diplomatic resolution to the military conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and pushing for the election of a new president.

The Quint nations (France, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Qatar and Egypt) plan to convene in either Paris or Doha for a new meeting to discuss potential solutions to break the presidential deadlock. They aim to separate this dossier from the Gaza issue, a stance that Hezbollah opposes as they seek political gains by linking the two.

The Quint ambassadors met in Beirut last week to begin the discussions.
