Lebanese Forces (LF) MP Fadi Karam said on Thursday that Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s stance on linking developments on the southern front with Israel to the war in Gaza will be strongly objected to, as it is tantamount to handing over the official Lebanese decision to Hezbollah.

In comments made to the local radio station Voice of Lebanon, Karam said, “This strange decision will be a point of confrontation as it serves the Moumanaa (Hezbollah-led) axis.”

He called on the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) to decide “whether it is on the side of the Moumanaa axis or on the sovereign side, as it cannot remain in a middle position.”

He said the opposition was considering steps regarding the presidential issue, while confirming that the consensus with the FPM over former minister Jihad Azour’s candidacy is still relevant.

He added, however, that “if there is another candidate capable of securing a larger number of votes and is in line with the sovereign approach adopted by the opposition forces, the LF has no objection to discussing the matter.”
