Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a series of political meetings on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, all focusing on the explosive situation in South Lebanon.

These included meetings with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Spain’s José Manuel Albares Bueno and Austria’s Alexander Schallenberg. He also met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.

During the meetings, Mikati called for “pressuring Israel to stop its attacks on South Lebanon and its continued violations of Lebanese sovereignty.” He reaffirmed “Lebanon’s commitment to international resolutions, in particular Resolution 1701,” urging the international community to put pressure on Israel for it to “implement its terms fully and comply with all the resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council since the 1949 Armistice Agreement.”

The caretaker Prime Minister also called for a ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the need to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the enclave.

Mikati then held talks with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, the Prime Ministers of Jordan, Bisher Khasawneh, Iraq’s Mohammed Shia’ Al Soudani, Tunisia’s Ahmed Hachani, Pakistan’s Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and Mark Rutte of the Netherlands.
