Caretaker Minister of Public Works Ali Hamieh said on Saturday that “the flooding of the highway in Dbayeh is thought to be due to the accumulation of sand from construction sites in the drainage canals.”

“Some people are wondering why water is accumulating on certain highways and not draining properly through the canals. A video dated Saturday, January 13, shockingly shows huge quantities of construction sand being removed from inside the water drainage canal in Dbayeh by Ministry workers,” Hamieh wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).

He said that sand and debris from construction that were dumped into the canal come from sites located in the heights of Dbayeh.

Hamieh wondered whether the drainage canals were the right place to dump sand from construction sites. “Who is responsible for this?” he asked.
