The leader of the Lebanese Forces (LF), Samir Geagea, declared that “what is happening on the southern border is not the result of a legal decision.”  Geagea is referring to the artillery exchanges between Hezbollah and Israel that began on October 8, the day after Hamas attacked the Jewish state.

“This decision was not established by the government, nor discussed in Parliament,” he said during an annual dinner for LF engineers and architects in the diaspora organized Friday evening in Meerab.

He continued, “This decision was also not the subject of an agreement between the various Lebanese parties but was established by a single party (referring to Hezbollah), based on non-Lebanese considerations. It is being implemented unilaterally with no regard to the threats. To date, between 80,000 and 100,000 people have been displaced.”

Affirming his support for the people of Gaza, he pointed out that suggesting opening the southern front in support of Gaza was merely a “pretext.”  According to Geagea, “Hezbollah, and through it the obstructionist axis and Iran, is aiming to reassert its presence on the regional scene by opening this front, with the intention of participating in negotiations when the time comes.”

“As a result, it is the Palestinians who will have fought in Gaza, while others (Iran and its allies) will sit at the negotiating table,” noted Geagea.

In this respect, he felt that this move was harmful to Gaza, especially as “the whole world” is seeking to combat “this chain of Iranian militias, which stretches from Lebanon to Yemen, passing through Syria and Iraq.”
