The US State Department has recently updated the departure status for family members of US government personnel and certain non-emergency personnel of the US Embassy in Lebanon.
The US State Department announced on its website, on Tuesday, that “US Embassy Beirut is no longer on Authorized Departure status,” and that the Embassy “has returned to normal staffing and presence.”
However, it’s important to note that this update specifically pertains to the Embassy and its staff. The travel advisory for Lebanon remains at Level 4, “recommending that US citizens do not travel to Lebanon due to crime, terrorism, armed conflict, civil unrest, kidnapping and Embassy Beirut’s limited capacity to provide support to US citizens.”
The State Department also emphasized that “some areas, especially near the borders, have increased risk.”
To recall, on October 17, the State Department instructed non-essential members of its embassy in Lebanon to leave the country, 10 days after the start of the war on Gaza.
