Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri has convened the joint parliamentary committees for a meeting on Monday December 11 at 10:30 AM, with three items on the agenda.

First, a bill related to a $300 million loan agreement granted by the World Bank to finance a social safety net project.

Second, a bill that aims to provide financial assistance worth 650 billion Lebanese pounds, allocated in the budget of the Ministry of Education for the year 2023, to feed the compensation fund for members of the educational staff of private schools.

And third, a bill to amend certain provisions of the texts related to private school educational staff and the school budget.

It is important to note that on November 29, the joint parliamentary committees approved, among other things, a bill related to the transition from the end-of-service indemnity system to the retirement pension system, paving the way for an essential reform that will benefit the Lebanese.

A legislative session is due to be held in the first half of December, as previously announced by the Speaker of Parliament, with a “full agenda” that will include the Lebanese Forces’ bill to extend the term of office of the army’s Commander-in-Chief, General Joseph Aoun, who is set to retire on January 10.
