Caretaker Minister of Economy Amin Salam relayed on Tuesday the upcoming phase to Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, which involves establishing a monitoring committee and starting the work on the Qatari-Lebanese Joint Committee in agreement with the Qatari side.

“It will focus on initiatives to support alternative energy in Lebanon, securing more than 450 megawatts of electricity from solar energy,” he said.

Additionally, there are initiatives concerning transportation, Lebanese family affairs, social support, and long-term projects, all coordinated with the relevant ministries.

“We will convey the positive image and full support from Qatar to all the concerned ministers, aiming to start implementing these initiatives at the beginning of next year,” he added.

Salam briefed Mikati on details about “the highly positive and distinctive visit to Qatar,” which involved “significant meetings for Lebanon focusing on political, economic, and social aspects,” as well as the “positive feedback received from Expo Doha 2023, where the official opening of the Lebanese pavilion was notably successful, as recognized by the Ministry of Municipalities and those involved in the expo.”

Moreover, he announced having discussed with the Qatari Minister of Municipalities a very important project, which is the joint effort to establish twinning between Qatari and Lebanese municipalities. “This matter will be studied for a serious start at the beginning of next year due to its significance for municipalities and the overall Lebanese situation,” Salam said.
