The Israeli shelling that targeted journalists in southern Lebanon on Monday, injuring a cameraman, drew strong condemnations by politicians and press associations.

The incident, the second of its kind in a month, occurred when Israeli shells hit the village of Yaroun, as a convoy of journalists was touring the area.

Caretaker Minister of Information Ziad Makary said on the X platform, “The attempts to eliminate free speech will not intimidate journalists. Journalism will continue to report the truth about Israel, which is increasingly committing crimes day after day.”

At the same time, the “Journalists for Freedom” association condemned, in a press release, “this behavior that is contrary to international law,” calling on “international democratic and media organizations and institutions to exert pressure to put an end to Israeli violations and ensure immediate accountability.”

In this context, the association considered that, with the November 13 attack, “Israel provided further evidence of its deliberate intention to target the media in order to prevent the dissemination of the truth to public opinion.”

The chairman of the parliamentary Information Committee, Ibrahim Moussaoui, called for “immediate action and urgent measures” to prevent Israel from continuing its crimes, perpetrated “against free media voices,” whether in Lebanon or Palestine. In a statement, Moussaoui stressed the need to “bring those responsible for these crimes before the competent international jurisdictions.”

The Media Office of the Progressive Socialist Party also commented on the attack via the X platform saying, “no matter what the Israeli army does, it will not succeed in deterring the media from exposing its atrocities. Appreciation to colleagues who are working to expose the image of the occupation.”

The Media Office of the Amal Movement also condemned the Israeli attack as “malicious and cowardly,” and called on “the Lebanese government to take immediate action at the United Nations to hold the enemy accountable for its crimes and expose it before the entire world.”

Today’s incident comes one month after a Reuters journalist, Issam Abdallah, was killed in Israeli shelling of Alma al-Shaab village on October 13, which also wounded journalists from AFP and Al-Jazeera.
