The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers announced on Friday that it will convene the caretaker government for a session with a 16-point agenda “soon.”

However, ministerial sources revealed to This Is Beirut that the cabinet is expected to meet on Tuesday.

Among the issues to be addressed is the approval of the request from the caretaker Minister of Telecommunications, Johnny Corm, regarding the Starlink system, an Internet service provided by SpaceX, a company founded by Elon Musk. Starlink relies on 3,200 satellites orbiting the Earth, allowing users to connect to the Internet without the need for infrastructure such as cables or telephone lines. This would ensure the continuity of internet service in the event of a conflict between Lebanon and Israel.

Similarly, the government will hear Minister Corm’s report on the matter of awarding the management of the postal sector to the French shipping company CMA CGM through the group formed by Merit-Colis Privé, which had originally won the tender. A renegotiation of the contract had been requested at the last cabinet meeting on November 1, and the award had been postponed.

Ministers will also deliberate on the Ministry of Telecommunications’ request for the construction of the Cadmos 2 cable connecting Lebanon to Cyprus, to replace the Cadmos cable damaged by the earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria in February and was felt in Lebanon.

The Ministry of Health’s request for a review of the subsidy mechanism for cancer drugs will also be discussed.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance’s proposal regarding the opening of a documentary credit in favor of the Iraqi oil company Somo (State Oil Marketing Organization) to implement the agreement signed between Lebanon and Iraq for the purchase of fuel for the EDL power plants will be examined.

Several draft decrees will also be reviewed.
