Dar el-Fatwa announced in a statement issued on Thursday that the US Ambassador Dorothy Shea asked to reschedule her visit to the Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdellatif Deriane. This comes after an anti-American sit-in was staged outside the Sunni authority’s headquarters in Beirut.
According to the same document, the Mufti insisted in a statement on the need for the United States to end its support for Israel in its war on Gaza and to place pressure on Tel Aviv to establish a ceasefire and a humanitarian truce with the aim of delivering aid to the people of Gaza.
The Mufti also called for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
