Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Amman on Saturday morning. The meeting took place in the presence of Lebanon’s Ambassador to Jordan, Joe Emile Raggi, and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf.

Mikati reiterated “Lebanon’s commitment to international laws and its dedication to upholding Resolution 1701 of the Security Council in coordination with UNIFIL.” As per Resolution 1701, any unauthorized armed presence south of the Litani River is prohibited.

Mikati also urged “the international community to exert pressure on Israel to cease its daily incursions into Lebanese territory” and called for an end to the hostilities in Gaza.

Secretary of State Blinken stated that he is “actively engaged in making significant efforts to establish a humanitarian ceasefire, which would be coupled with the initiation of discussions concerning the hostage situation held by Hamas.”
