Lebanese Forces MP Fadi Karam said that the Army is the only institution that is still functioning in Lebanon, adding, “We have to make sure it does not collapse.”

Karam stated to This is Beirut, “We could not leave the post of Army commander vacant or allow some parties in Lebanon to put their hands on it.”

He gave these explanations after the Lebanese Forces bloc presented on Tuesday a draft law aiming to delay for one year the retirement of Army Commander Joseph Aoun due to “the exceptional circumstances” Lebanon is going through. General Aoun is supposed to retire on January 10.
