Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Friday at the Grand Serail to discuss the current situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries.

Mikati stated, “We are making every effort to restore calm to the South,” and called for “pressure on Israel to stop its aggression against Lebanon and to stop the firing in Gaza.”

The German Minister “emphasized the need to avoid wrong calculations and keep Lebanon as far as possible from the conflict.”

Baerbock also held discussions earlier in the day with caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib. Following their meeting, Bou Habib stated, “It was agreed during the meeting that the two-state solution is the entry point to address the root causes of the conflict in Gaza.”

“We rely on Germany’s influence in Europe and the world, as well as its experience with the ravages of war, to help establish an immediate ceasefire and allow relief convoys to enter the Gaza Strip,” emphasized Bou Habib to his counterpart. He concluded by warning “against the repercussions of this conflict, not only on the security of our region but also on that of Europe in particular and the world in general.”
