The caretaker Minister of Health, Firas Abiad, announced that “payments owed to hospitals for dialysis treatments have been ensured,” insisting that he “will not show complacency towards those who try to charge additional fees to patients.”

In a statement released on Friday by the Ministry’s press office, Abiad indicated that “following discussions with the acting governor of the Central Bank, Wassim Mansouri, an account was opened in accordance with the conditions of the BDL for the disbursement of an advance of LBP 1,000 billion to the benefit of the Ministry of Health to settle the arrears of hospitals linked to dialysis.”

He added that these funds will begin to be released  “at the end of next week to cover the exceeding amounts.”
