Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rai said that “the Church will not remain silent about the deliberate absence of the only Christian President in the League of Arab States.”

In his homily during the golden jubilee mass of the Maronite Diocese of Australia, Bishop Rai stressed that “the Church will not remain silent about all the negative aspects in Lebanon and will not abandon its commitment to its mission, through its educational, social and hospital institutions.”

He said that “the law and the Constitution are violated in Lebanon by influential people, and violations committed by any member of any party are covered by that party, which protects their author.”

“In Lebanon, taxes are not collected from all citizens, but in some regions rather than others, either intentionally, or out of fear of excessive force, or because of negligence, and therefore little public services are provided to the citizens,” added the Maronite prelate.

Rai finally called on the Lebanese community in Australia to register in the Lebanese registers in order to maintain their presence in Lebanon.
