The leader of the Lebanese Forces party (LF), Samir Geagea, stated on Saturday that “military combat during the war, despite its difficulty and tragedies, was easier than political combat today,” adding however that it is the political and not the military struggle that is the norm, and that he is “against the military phase unless necessary.”

Mr. Geagea made these remarks during a press conference organized by the Northern Metn region within the party and the People’s University in Rabweh.

In response to participants’ questions, the leader of the LF explained that during the war, the intentions and plans of the belligerents are “declared,” whereas in political struggle, “the problem resides in the lies, hypocrisy and deception, which are the masters of the game.”

Discussing the history of the Lebanese Resistance, Geagea indicated that it began as a spontaneous reaction, with residents “mobilizing to defend certain Lebanese regions that were directly under fire.” According to him, the concept of Resistance is not the result of a “conspiracy” or “premeditated planning.”

Geagea also emphasized that “Bachir Gemayel symbolizes the leader of the general Resistance that preserved Lebanon. Without Bachir Gemayel and this Resistance, we could have had a different Lebanon today,” he concluded.
