Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee Ibrahim Kanaan openly attacked “Henri Chaoul, the Ministry of Finance’s ‘successful’ consultant, who enjoys an ‘immaculate reputation’ worldwide and is also the ‘broker’ of funds for financial companies in Lebanon and around the world.”

Kanaan also fiercely criticized Chaoul on his X account (formerly Twitter), accusing him of “falsifying documents and intimidating the Lebanese and depositors, covering up the scandal of obstructing the audit of State assets and property for four years, preventing accountability and the handling of depositors’ files and the restoration of trust.” The MP also revealed that the ministry Chaoul was “advising” is accused of corruption, having spent more than $177 billion since 1993 without financial accounting verification and without legal basis.
