The Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdellatif Deriane, praised on Tuesday “the exceptional efforts of General Imad Othman (Director General of the Internal Security Forces) and his commitment to fulfilling his national duty.”
Deriane, who made the remarks at the end of a meeting with General Othman at Dar al-Fatwa, also highlighted “the achievements of the ISF General Directorate, all units included, in preserving civil peace and maintaining security in Lebanon.”
General Othman assured that “the ISF leadership is constantly mobilized to preserve security and stability despite all the difficult circumstances Lebanon is facing, and that it is at the service of the nation and its citizens in all Lebanese regions.”
The meeting comes following a visit by Caretaker Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi to Sheikh Deriane. It also comes at a time when a dispute between Mr. Mawlawi and Othman has come to light. Dar al-Fatwa intervened to settle it, and the Minister of the Interior announced on Monday, at the end of his meeting with the Mufti, that there was no personal conflict with General Othman. This was also emphasized by Sheikh Deriane.
