The Lebanese government, which convened on Monday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Najib Mikati, decided to dispatch a ministerial commission to Damascus. Presided by caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib, the commission will discuss with the Syrian authorities the incessant flux of Syrian migrants to Lebanon, as well as the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

Caretaker Minister of Economy Amin Salam explained to our colleagues, Houna Loubnan, that Bou Habib had already called for a meeting with his Syrian counterpart. In addition, another governmental meeting will be held at the end of the month to discuss the issue of Syrian refugees.

The government, which had sustained its examination of the 2024 Budget draft, maintained the 1% surcharge on VAT, which will thus amount to 11%.

Another meeting will be held on Tuesday to pursue discussions related to this draft law.
