Fatah declared a “cleansing” battle in Ain el-Helweh.

Fatah declared the beginning of a “cleansing battle” as clashes reoccur between its members and extremist Islamic forces in the Ain el-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp.

Jund al-Sham and Muslim youth groups launched unexpected attacks on Fatah positions in the al-Baraksa neighborhood. The attack began with the detonation of a grenade, followed by heavy gunfire from the Emergency Center toward Fatah positions in al-Baraksa.

The clashes have resulted in casualties in the camp.

This incident unfolds following talks about a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending violence in Lebanon’s largest and most populous Palestinian refugee camp, which houses over 50,000 inhabitants.

Earlier, the Joint Palestinian Security Forces in Ain el-Helweh were tasked with implementing a ceasefire agreement reached last month. The agreement aimed to end the clashes and arrest suspects involved in the assassination of Fatah military official Abu Ashraf al-Armoushi.

At least nine members of the Islamic Takfiri group are suspected of being involved in the assassination of al-Armoushi and four of his companions at the end of July. This event sparked violence in the camp, leading to confrontations between Islamic militants and Fatah-led Palestinian factions. During several days of fighting, at least 11 people were killed, dozens were wounded, and hundreds were displaced.

According to media information, the attack was launched by the islamist groups to prevent the Joint Palestinian Security Forces to deploy in the camp on Friday.
