France’s special envoy for Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, is expected to return to Beirut on Monday, September 11, to try to address the political crisis that has been paralyzing the country for 10 months now.

“He will be in Lebanon on Monday,” his entourage told AFP on Wednesday, September 6, without providing any further details regarding his schedule.

The former head of French diplomacy has proposed that all Lebanese political players meet in September to reach “a consensus” that would enable the election of a president. Lebanon has been without a president for almost a year, but this meeting has been faced with rejection on the part of the sovereignist opposition blocs, who consider that Hezbollah and its obstructionist axis are crippling the institutions in order to impose their regional project on the Lebanese.
