The Jbeil regional office of the Kataeb party denounced on Wednesday what it described as an “environmental tragedy” in the Nahr Ibrahim region (Jbeil caza), where “dozens of ducks and geese were found dead 200 meters from the mouth of the river, which is an indication of the pollution of its water.”

“This is all the more dangerous as many people bathe in this river,” the party said in a press release.

It called on the relevant authorities to “act quickly to preserve this ecological wealth, remove the danger threatening living beings in the river and find a rapid solution to this urgent problem.”

“This press release serves as judicial information,” reads the document.

The party also stressed that “these environmental disasters are recurring, in the absence of measures taken by the competent authorities to protect this historic site.”

It added that the party would continue to put pressure on the official authorities to protect “the people and the environment.”
