According to to the online news website “Al-Intishar,” a responsible source within the General Security agency addressed the circulating rumors regarding the inability to submit passport applications at Lebanese embassies for expatriates. This issue only pertains to those who do not possess biometric passports. Those wishing to obtain a new biometric passport for the first time are required to come to Lebanon. “We have designated Fridays of each week at all centers to cater exclusively to the requests of expatriates,” he said. The process is completed within 48 working hours.

According to the aforementioned official, Lebanese citizens abroad who already possess a biometric passport can apply through Lebanese embassies.

In January, the General Security had already announced that starting from May 1, 2023, it would no longer issue the old red passports (2003) to Lebanese people living abroad who have never obtained a biometric passport, and they would have to come to Lebanon to obtain a biometric passport for the first time.
