The caretaker government convened on Thursday for the second consecutive day, with the challenges facing public schools in the coming academic year high on its agenda.

Ahead of the meeting, Minister of Education Abbas Halabi declared that the clause related to the securing of funds for public schools is a top priority.

“We need about $150 million. I do not believe that the school year is at risk. Hopefully the funds will be secured,” Halabi stated.

Finance Minister Youssef Khalil said the Ministry is “seeking to secure the funds requested by the education ministers.”

When asked about the source of the funding, Khalil answered evasively, “From our work! From donations.”
