President of the Order of Journalists Joseph Kossaifi branded August 4, 2020 as “the saddest day in Lebanon’s modern history, one that will remain forever engraved in the memory of the Lebanese.”

“Only the truth can bring justice to the victims in their graves and to the wounded who bear the scars of this tragedy,” he said in a statement on Thursday, on the eve of the third commemoration of the explosion.

Kossaifi called for “justice to take its course and the judicial system to continue its investigation” of the tragedy in which 235 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured.

Kossaifi also paid tribute to the memory of the victims and to the wounded and journalists who miraculously escaped the blast.
