Caretaker Prime Minister Najb Mikati on Thursday deplored the boycott by the majority of ministers of the cabinet session that was dedicated to discuss the looming vacancy at the helm of Lebanon’s Central Bank, days before Governor Riad Salame’s mandate expires on July 31.
“We had an opportunity to find a temporary solution for the financial and monetary situation, but unfortunately the political considerations of the parties in the government had the priority over other matters,” said a statement issued by Mikati’s press office
“Let every party assume responsibility for its decision,” Mikati added, urging MPs to fulfill their duty in electing a president of the republic as quickly as possible “in order to reactive the work of public institutions and continue the reforms that the government has started.”
