Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said in an interview with “Al-Hurra” that “next Thursday, there will be a session to appoint a new governor for the Central Bank of Lebanon.”

He also emphasized that “the whole country is in danger if a president is not elected before the end of the year,” reiterating his support for Sleiman Frangieh, the leader of the Marada Movement, as a candidate for the presidency.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon’s Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, invited ministers to convene a session on Thursday at noon to discuss the financial and economic crisis in the country as the term of the Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, comes to an end.

During the session, the council will discuss post-Salameh governance and the available opportunities for appointing a new governor.
