On Tuesday, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Ain el-Tineh to address the pressing leadership crisis at the Central bank.

During the meeting, Berri emphasized “the need to hold a Cabinet session to appoint a new Central Bank governor.”

On Monday, Salameh’s four vice-governors met with Mikati, presenting their plan and requesting from the government to legally support their efforts.

Mikati acknowledged the compatibility of the plan with the government’s objectives but deemed it “impossible to implement” within the proposed timeframes.

Earlier, the vice-governors threatened to resign but later retracted their threat, claiming they intended to “alarm the political class and the people.”

Currently, they are awaiting feedback from MPs regarding their proposal and will proceed accordingly.

Salameh’s term ends on July 31, 2023.
