In a statement on “Sawt Lubnan” on Tuesday, July 25, Head of the Pharmacists Syndicate Joe Salloum announced strict measures aimed at ensuring that pharmacies comply with dispensing legitimate medicines. He emphasized the importance of the stickers placed on the doors of legitimate pharmacies as a crucial step in fully implementing the laws within the industry while guaranteeing the rights of patients and protecting them from fraud.

Salloum also explained that intensive periodic inspections would be conducted to ensure that pharmacies comply with the sticker requirement and that violators would be referred for investigation. As such, he called on officials to apply the laws beyond the scope of the pharmacists’ syndicate and to put an end to violations that endanger patients’ health.

He also highlighted the dangers of smuggled drugs given the need to pay heed to their type, quality and storage methods.

He stressed that a drug’s quality can only be guaranteed if it is registered with the Ministry of Health.

Salloum also drew attention to the risk posed by some dietary supplements when taken simultaneously with some medicines.

He said, “The Pharmacists’ Syndicate is cooperating with the judicial system to combat forgery and smuggling. I urge the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures and mechanisms to ensure the availability of legitimate medicines and unify the guaranteeing funds.”
